On the afternoon of October 27, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held its ninth collective study session on strengthening the consciousness of the Chinese national community. General Secretary Xi Jinping, presiding over the study session, emphasized that strengthening the consciousness of the Chinese national community means guiding all ethnic groups to firmly establish the concept of a community with a shared future, sharing weal and woe, honor and disgrace, life and death, and destiny. It is necessary to fully implement the deployment of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, accurately grasp the new stage characteristics of the Party's ethnic work, take strengthening the consciousness of the Chinese national community as the main line of the Party's ethnic work and all work in ethnic regions, continuously strengthen and improve the Party's ethnic work, solidly promote the cause of ethnic unity and progress, and advance the high-quality development of the Party's ethnic work in the new era.

Comrade Wang Yanzhong, Director of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, gave an explanation on this issue and proposed work suggestions. After listening to the explanation and discussion, Xi Jinping delivered an important speech. He pointed out that since ancient times, the people of all ethnic groups in our country have jointly created the brilliant Chinese civilization and forged the great Chinese nation. Our Party has always attached great importance to ethnic issues and ethnic work, correctly handling ethnic relations. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, our Party has emphasized concepts such as the big family of the Chinese nation, the Chinese national community, strengthening the consciousness of the Chinese national community, and promoting the construction of the Chinese national community. It has clearly proposed taking strengthening the consciousness of the Chinese national community as the main line of the Party's ethnic work in the new era and the main line of all work in ethnic regions, further expanding the correct path with Chinese characteristics to solve ethnic issues, forming important thoughts on strengthening and improving ethnic work, opening up a new realm of the sinicization and modernization of Marxist ethnic theory, and achieving new historic achievements in the Party's ethnic work.

Xi Jinping emphasized that after the 20th National Congress of the CPC, people of all ethnic groups across the country have embarked on a new journey of comprehensively promoting the building of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization. The Party's ethnic work faces new situations and tasks. To build a socialist modern country in all respects, no ethnic group can be left behind. We must vigorously promote the unity and struggle of all ethnic groups to gather tremendous strength for building a strong country and national rejuvenation; we must fully realize the common prosperity and development of all ethnic groups, allowing all ethnic peoples to share the great glory of building a strong country and national rejuvenation.

Xi Jinping pointed out that strengthening the consciousness of the Chinese national community requires building a scientific and complete theoretical system of the Chinese national community. We must base ourselves on the long history of the Chinese nation, combine Marxist ethnic theory with China's specific realities and excellent traditional Chinese culture, follow the historical and theoretical logic of the development of the Chinese nation, and scientifically reveal the principles, academic theories, and philosophies of the formation and development of the Chinese nation. We should optimize discipline settings, strengthen discipline construction, accurately grasp research directions, deepen research on major fundamental issues of the Chinese national community, accelerate the formation of an independent Chinese historical material system, discourse system, and theoretical system of the Chinese national community. We should focus on stimulating the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of a broad range of experts and scholars, strengthen the cultivation of young experts and scholars, guide them in setting the right direction, building platforms, and creating opportunities, encourage them to concentrate on research and accumulate knowledge for breakthroughs, and produce original theoretical achievements based on Chinese history, interpreting Chinese practice, and answering Chinese questions.

Xi Jinping emphasized that we must focus on building a modern civilization of the Chinese nation and continuously construct a shared spiritual home for the Chinese nation. We must conform to the major development trend of the Chinese nation moving from history to the future, from tradition to modernity, and from diversity to unity, deeply understand and grasp the prominent characteristics of Chinese civilization, and continuously build a shared spiritual home for the Chinese nation on a new historical starting point, laying a solid spiritual and cultural foundation for strengthening the consciousness of the Chinese national community. Xi Jinping pointed out that we must promote extensive exchanges, interactions, and integration among all ethnic groups, and promote Chinese-style modernization through the great unity of the Chinese nation.
