On the morning of August 19, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China, held talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam, who was on a state visit to China.

Xi Jinping pointed out that he welcomes General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong's state visit to China and once again congratulates him on being elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. His first visit as General Secretary to China fully reflects his high regard for the relations between the two parties and two countries, as well as the high-level and strategic nature of China-Vietnam relations. He expressed his willingness to establish a good working relationship and personal friendship with him, jointly leading the deep and solid development of the China-Vietnam community with a shared future.

Over the past more than ten years, I have known and understood Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, and together we have followed the path of friendship between the two parties and two countries pioneered by the older generation of leaders, advancing the socialist cause with our own characteristics hand in hand, and jointly ushering in a new era of building a strategically significant China-Vietnam community with a shared future. We deeply mourn the loss of such a good comrade and friend, and will forever remember Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong's outstanding contributions to the cause of China-Vietnam friendship and world socialism. I believe you will unite and lead the entire Party, army, and people of Vietnam to inherit Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong's legacy and continue to advance toward the centenary goals of party and state building set by the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. China will always regard Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy, support Vietnam in upholding the Party's leadership, following a socialist path suited to its national conditions, and deeply advancing reform, opening up, and socialist modernization.

As the two ruling communist parties in today's world, the Communist Parties of China and Vietnam should uphold the original intention of friendship, continue the traditional friendship, remember the common mission, adhere to the leadership of the Communist Party and the socialist system, continuously deepen the strategically significant construction of the China-Vietnam community with a shared future, jointly promote the development of the world socialist cause, and believe that our path will become broader and broader.
