Recently, the Yuetang Public Security Cybersecurity Team, in collaboration with the Shuangma Police Station, visited Hunan Shengli Xianggang Steel Pipe to carry out a themed publicity campaign titled "Combating Internet Rumors, Building a Clear and Bright Cyberspace Together."
Internet rumors are extremely harmful. They can mislead public judgment and cause social panic. For example, during public health incidents, false epidemic information may lead people to blindly purchase medicines and hoard supplies, disrupting normal market order. Additionally, internet rumors can damage the reputation of individuals, enterprises, and social organizations, affecting their normal work and development.

Our country's laws have clear regulations regarding internet rumors. Deliberately fabricating and spreading false information that disrupts social order may violate the "Public Security Administration Punishment Law"; in severe cases, it may even constitute a crime punishable under the "Criminal Law." This means that online speech is not without constraints, and everyone must be responsible for their words and actions.
How to Combat Rumors
First,
Improve your media literacy. When facing the complex and diverse information online, maintain rational and critical thinking, and do not blindly believe or spread unverified content. For information with unknown sources or exaggerated content, verify through multiple channels to avoid becoming a spreader of rumors.
Second,
Relevant departments should strengthen supervision and law enforcement. Establish and improve mechanisms for monitoring internet rumors to promptly detect and handle them. For illegal acts of creating and spreading internet rumors, impose severe punishments according to law to form an effective deterrent.
At the same time,
Internet platforms should also assume social responsibility. Improve information review mechanisms and strengthen management of user-published content. Promptly delete rumor information and issue warnings or penalties to the publishers.

Use various forms to educate the public about the harms of internet rumors and related laws and regulations, enhancing public legal awareness and sense of responsibility. Let everyone understand that the internet is not beyond the law, and any illegal or criminal behavior will be punished by law.
